Annual Conferences

IACL holds one international conference on Chinese linguistics as its annual conference. Only members of the Association are eligible to participate. Membership is open to all scholars and students with an interest consistent with the objectives of the Association. The following lists future and past Annual Conferences of IACL (in reverse chronological order). Follow links, where available, to read more details.

The 20th Annual Conference of the International Association of Chinese Linguistics (IACL-20) will be held in the summer of 2012 at SOAS, University of London.

More details will be posted as they become available.

• 2011: IACL-19.   The 19th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-19) was held on June 11-13, 2011 at Nankai University, in Tianjin, China. More information can be found at the IACL 19 home page.

• 2010: IACL-18.   The 18th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-18) was held on May 20-22, 2010 in conjunction with the 22nd North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-22) at Harvard University.

• 2009: IACL-17.   The 17th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-17) was held on July 2-4, 2009 in Paris, France. IACL 17 home page.

• 2008: IACL-16.   The 16th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-16) was held on May 30-June 2, 2008 in Peking University, Beijing, China.

• 2007: IACL-15.   The 15th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-15) was held on May 25-27, 2007 in conjunction with the 19th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-19) at Columbia University. More details of the conference can be found at IACL-15 & NACCL 19 home page.

• 2006: IACL-14.   The 14th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-14) was held on May 25-29, 2006 in conjunction with IsCLL 10 at Academia Sinica in Taiwan.

• 2005: IACL-13.   The 13th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-13) was held on June 9-11, 2005 at Leiden University, in Leiden, the Netherlands.

• 2004: IACL-12.   The 12th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-12) was held on June 18-20, 2004 in Tianjin, China, under the auspices of School of Chinese Culture and Literature, Nankai University.

• 2002: IACL-11.   The 11th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-11) was held on August 20-22, 2002 in Nagoya (Nagakute), Aichi, Japan, under the auspices of Department of Chinese Studies, Aichi Prefectural University.

• 2001: IACL-10/NACCL-13.   The 10th International Conference of the International Association of Chinese Linguistics (IACL-10), in conjunction with the 13th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-13), was held at Irvine, California, under the auspices of the Department of Linguistics, University of California, Irvine, on June 22-24, 2001.

• 2000: IACL-9/ICCL-9.   The 9th International Conference of Chinese Linguistics (ICCL-9) of the IACL was held at IACL’s birthplace, Singapore, under the auspices of the Center for Advanced Studies, National University of Singapore, on June 26-28.

• 1999: IACL-8.   The 8th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-8) was held July 5-7, 1999 in Melbourne, Australia, under the auspices of the Melbourne Institute of Asian Languages and Societies, University of Melbourne.

• 1998: IACL-7/NACCL-10.   The 7th Annual Conference of the IACL (IACL-7) was held at Stanford University on and hosted by its Department of Asian Languages.

• 1997: IACL-6.   The 6th Annual Conference (IACL-6) was hosted by the Sinological Institute, Leiden University, the Netherlands, in close cooperation with the International Institute for Asian Studies.

• 1996: ICCL-5.   The 5th Annual Conference (ICCL-5) was held at National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, and hosted by the Graduate Institute of Linguistics.

• 1995: ICCL-4/NACCL-7.   The 4th Annual Conference (ICCL-4) was held at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin, and hosted by its Department of East Asian Languages and Literature. The conference was held in conjunction with NACCL-7, the 7th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics.

• 1994: ICCL-3.   ICCL-3 took place in July 1994 in Hong Kong under the auspices of the Language Information Sciences Research Centre of the City University of Hong Kong.

• 1993: ICCL-2.   ICCL-2 was held in June 1993 at the Minstére de la Recherche et de l'Espace, in Paris, under the auspices of the Centre de Recherches Linguistiques sur l'Asie Orientale of the C.N.R.S., France.

• 1992: ICCL-1.   The IACL was created during the First International Conference on Chinese Linguistics (ICCL-1) at the National University of Singapore, in June 1992.
